Chicago Cubs' Tyler Colvin hospitalized after broken bat punctures chest

On Sunday afternoon, Tyler Colvin of the Chicago Cubs' upper left chest was punctured by a piece of bat while coming home from third to score on a double play. Colvin needed to be hospitalized because of a wound described as "fairly deep". A tube was inserted into Colvin's lung to prevent it from collapsing.  This incident is sure to intensify debate over baseball's use of maple bats.
