Regular Walking May Slow Decline of Alzheimer's

I came across this article on Alzheimer's and how walking about five miles a week may help slow the progression of cognitive illness among seniors already suffering from mild forms of cognitive impairment or Alzheimer's disease. There is an estimate of 2.4 million to 5.1 million people in the U.S. that are estimated to have Alzheimer's disease. They found that walking five miles per week protects the brain structure over ten years in people with Alzheimer's, especially in areas of the brain's key memory and learning centers. They also found that these people had a slower decline in memory loss over five years. Although walking is not a cure to Alzheimer's, it can improve your brain;s resistance to the disease and reduce memory loss over time.
